Notes |
- Information from "The Loyalist Comptons of Prince Edward Island" by Harold S. MacLeod, p. 1 - From the book "Woodbridge and Vicinity" by Joseph Dally we find the following: "About the middle of November, 1667, a sensation was created in the settlement by the arrival of a baby. The first white child born in Woodbridge. The town recognized the event on May 18, 1717 after the child had grown to womanhood and married. She married Caleb Campbell on January 1, 1696. Her grave is to be seen in the rear of the Presbyterian Church and marked with a brown stone partly covered with moss. It reads: In memory of Mary, wife of Caleb Campbell who died 15 February, 1735. Aged sixty-seven years and three months. First white child born in Woodbridge." When we (Harold S. MacLeod) visited the site in 1987, there were two groups of children, led by their teachers, visitiing this grave as part of their education in local history.
